A movement is like a collective, though often includes more members in a wider geographic area. Movements are also often more more diffuse in membership and ideology. Most movements are categorized as "social movements with social change as the core issue tying the group together.

Movement as a P2P Network

A movement often uses peer-to-peer organizing routines but may not be interested in Commons Based outcomes. In some cases a social movement may seek a legal remedy; the enaction of new law or changes in existing law. It is possible to see the legal code of a jurisdiction as a form of a Commons. In some cases this will provoke a movement towards the greater complexity of organization required to manage production systems. Regardless of the level of organization, though, the orientation to a commons can facilitate widespread inspiration and membership.
