P2P Foundation on Facebook
From P2P Foundation
The P2P Foundation has a Page on Facebook
Contents |
Why Facebook?
- Lots of people are on Facebook. When we, the Foundation's community, share links with Facebook, then yet more people become aware of them.
- Being on Facebook allows lots of people to keep a somewhat passive connection to the Foundation by 'being a Fan.' No harm in this.
- Making money! Specifically, if there's a funding drive, annually, then sending an email to this group with a general appeal is an idea. More trees have been killed talking about how to use Facebook to make money than were used during the first 20 years of the newly formed government of the United States of America. This article is not about making money with Facebook. The idea of sending an appeal to folks is a possibility. See P2P Foundation Fundraising Policy for more information.
How Facebook?
Content for the Facebook Page
- Anyone who 'likes' the page can add videos, events, and links
- That means the friends of the Foundation can put up events they are having, which is a good thing.
- Blog Feed
- The feed from the Blog is now being imported as notes to the page. They no longer need to be cross posted. Something will show up on the wall.
Concerns and How Tos
How should this Facebook page be used? If you have ideas about policy then please feel free to comment on the Facebook page or the talk page for this page. This is under exploration now.
- A few things that should be avoided:
- Posting more than a couple of a links daily
- No more than 1 or 2 'asks' annually by message/email to the Page fans
- Post 3 types of content, officially, to keep things simple
- Links to blog posts on the P2P Foundation blog
- Links to 'funny haha' things on the web that are 'old-school' mistakes, and sooo not p2p.
- Links to the home pages of people who are writing great stuff.
- Avoid linking to the following
- For profit organizations
- Voice of the P2P Foundation Page on Facebook
- If you want to write a personal note on the wall, well, you can't
- Everything that is written as a comment uses the "P2P Foundation" page account, making it look like it comes from the foundation
