Review

Review by Edward Willatt:

"In this book Nick Hewlett introduces three thinkers whose relevance to our times is clear. He explains and explores their complex ideas with great clarity. His use of the contemporary political context to show how their thought works, its relevance and what is wrong with it makes this a vivid and engaging introduction. As a result the audience of this book extends beyond researchers and students. It does not presuppose knowledge of philosophy or political theory but explains its terms and arguments with admirable clarity and rich examples. Hewlett does this by working from his reader's familiarity with the current political context or what he refers to as 'lived reality' or 'the real world'. This strategy is the great strength of this book but is also its great weakness. It enables readers to gain access to the complex thought of these three thinkers but fails to draw them further, clinging as it does to an unquestioned notion of 'the real world'."
