Description

CommunityForge is French association, funded by client donations, which hosts instances of the open source Hamlets software, based on Drupal, for mostly Francophone community currency projects. Founded by Matthew Slater and Tim Anderson in Geneva 2008, it is now managed by a team of volunteers drawn from the users.

Drupal was chosen because it allows a great deal of configuration to be done without writing code, meaning that with minimal training and minimal risk, a member of a community currency group could manage a powerful customised web site on behalf of the group. Community Forge offers its members periodic training in its platform, and also has a helpdesk site.

The organisation also built and hosts the accommodation network for SEListes, Route des SEL, and the site for the French association which provides the legally mandated insurance for French SELs, SELidaire. It also maintains one more site, which functions as a broad offers/wants mailing list, L'Auberge de la Solidarité.
