"The focus though has been on intermediate and appropriate technology and unfortunately not very much at all on the concept of intermediate ownership. Community Land Trusts are an interesting exception of how to bring into balance limited private ownership with a large sea of common ownership. The trusteeship message here is strategically salient and this latter message can be found in the last chapter of Schumacher's book, Small is Beautiful. The chapter is called 'New Patterns of Ownership' and he gives some fabulous examples of what the concept of intermediate ownership would look like and points to pathways to bring this about. What is fascinating is that the examples are all Commons examples with a co-operative commonwealth analysis to support his strategic case for the ownership transfer of corporations to Trusteeship.
